Burnsville Drinking Water Information

Much of Burnsville’s drinking water comes from 16 wells with depths ranging from 264-1030 feet. The wells take their water from the Jordan Aquifer, the Mt. Simon Aquifer, the Prairie Du Chien-Jordan Aquifer, and the Franconia-Mt. Simon Aquifer.

In 2010 when Burnsville began drawing surface water from local quarries, they received hundreds of calls from residents with the following complaints:

It should be noted that the City of Burnsville has hired an engineering firm to help solve these problems, and asks residents to be patient until these problems have been resolved.

The EPA has established two standards for additional contaminants in tap water:

MCL: Maximum Contaminant Level - The maximum allowable level of a certain contaminant
MCLG: Maximum Contaminant Level GOAL - The level where studies have found ZERO HEALTH RISKS, aka the "Health Limit"

Certain contaminants that absorb easily through your skin have been highlighted in orange. For those items, a Point of Entry (POE) system is recommended to treat all the water for your home/business.
