Delano Water Quality Background

The City of Delano has four water wells that range in depth from 123 feet to 185 feet and pump water from the Quaternary Buried Artesian aquifer. In 2001, a 1.5 million gallon storage tank was added to support the City’s water network with 20 miles of pipe that range from 4" in diameter to 16".

Water softeners are needed in Delano to the extremely high level of hardness. In 2006, a new water treatment plant went into operation to remove iron and manganese which are the staining components of the water, not the hardness.

The EPA has established two standards for additional contaminants in tap water:

MCL: Maximum Contaminant Level - The maximum allowable level of a certain contaminant
MCLG: Maximum Contaminant Level GOAL - The level where studies have found ZERO HEALTH RISKS, aka the "Health Limit"

Certain contaminants that absorb easily through your skin have been highlighted in orange. For those items, a Point of Entry (POE) system is recommended to treat all the water for your home/business.
