Shakopee City Water Background

Shakopee draws water from 18 wells with depths ranging from 218-800 feet. 14 of these wells tap the Jordan Aquifer, while others draw from the Mt. Simon and Franconia/Ironton-Galesville Aquifers.

The City of Shakopee frequently tests for Nitrates due to the high average level. Nitrate levels may rise quickly for short periods of time because of rainfall or agricultural activity. Nitrate in drinking water at levels above 10 ppm is a health risk for infants of less than six months of age. If you are caring for an infant, you should ask advice from your health care provider.

Shakopee water is extremely hard with hardness ranging from 24-26gpg.

The EPA has established two standards for additional contaminants in tap water:

MCL: Maximum Contaminant Level - The maximum allowable level of a certain contaminant
MCLG: Maximum Contaminant Level GOAL - The level where studies have found ZERO HEALTH RISKS, aka the "Health Limit"

Certain contaminants that absorb easily through your skin have been highlighted in orange. For those items, a Point of Entry (POE) system is recommended to treat all the water for your home/business.
