Lakeville Water Quality Background

The City of Lakeville provides water to its residents from a groundwater source: 17 wells ranging from 460 to 864 feet deep. The wells draw water from the Prairie DuChien/Jordan aquifer and the Franconia-Ironton-Galesville formation.

Lakeville's water treatment plant was built in 1998, and has five water towers and one ground storage tank that store a total of 8.85 million gallons of water.

Lakeville's water hardness ranges from 18-19 grains, which is considered extremely hard and requires a water softener. Manganese levels exceed the recommended level of 50ppb, and may cause black stains unless treated by a filter.

The EPA has established two standards for additional contaminants in tap water:

MCL: Maximum Contaminant Level - The maximum allowable level of a certain contaminant
MCLG: Maximum Contaminant Level GOAL - The level where studies have found ZERO HEALTH RISKS, aka the "Health Limit"

Certain contaminants that absorb easily through your skin have been highlighted in orange. For those items, a Point of Entry (POE) system is recommended to treat all the water for your home/business.
